TMZ reports that the Jamaican Shottas and Belly actor was involved in a deadly car accident in Ontario, Canada on Monday 30 September. The publication says the crash involved a truck and another car, further details surrounding the incident are yet to surface. Louie, who is known for his Grammy Award winning 1992 hit Typewriter and calling himself the ‘Original Don Dada’, is thought to have died from injuries he sustained in the crash.
The star was best known for his role Teddy Bruckshot in Shottas, the 1998 crime drama Belly, in which he played the character Ox by the side of Nas and DMX. In 2016, Louie and Nas together appeared in DJ Khaled’s music video for the track Nas Album Done. News of Louie’s death was confirmed on the actor’s verified Twitter account.
Fans began post to Twitter with tributes to Louie Rankin, with many sharing their shock over his death. One fan posted: ‘I can’t believe I was just watching Shottas just yesterday!!!!! And Louie Rankin died RIP.’ Dancehall reggae artist Louie was born in St Thomas, Jamaica, but had been residing in Toronto before his death.
