The organisers of the Reggae concert, Sting, say last night’s staging of the event might not have been profitable although there were large crowds and valuable sponsorship deals this year.

According to Howard McIntosh of Sting organisers Supreme Promotions, this year, it cost around US$1 million or J$103 million to put on the reggae concert.

This is double the US$500,000 or about J$50 million it cost last year.

McIntosh says a significant portion of this year’s J$103 million bill went into re-constructing the Portmore venue at which the show is held to an international standard.

Sizzla shells Reggae Sting, again!

Against this background, McIntosh wants the Government to invest in creating a multipurpose venue that can help to reduce the cost incurred by show organisers to set up venues.

McIntosh says the Government should consider the suggestion to create a proper entertainment facility given the importance of the industry to Jamaica.
